Great source of antioxidants

Pure, organic turmeric root powder (Curcuma longa) has a rich golden yellow colour. An intense, characteristic aroma. The taste is warm, earthy, and... well, it's just hard to describe. Some say it's like ginger and pepper. But it's not. So try it for yourself.

We're helping farmers. So seriously, in partnership with the Peermade Development Society (PDS), we've helped more than 150 small-scale farmers transition to organic turmeric. Our farmers grow heirloom varieties of Alleppey finger, which yield the highest curcumin content of 4%. Farmers typically shun reproductive varieties because of their lower yields, but we have committed to buying all the turmeric the project produces. This ensures that farmers can continue to grow heirloom varieties of turmeric with high curcumin content and guarantees them a profitable market.

It is an indispensable spice for curry powder, Asian and East Indian dishes, and golden milk for when you want great flavour in marinades, dressings, eggs, cauliflower, and rice dishes. It also boosts the potency of your succulent green smoothies.

Contains anti-inflammatory properties

It can help relieve pain, swelling and inflammation throughout your body. Most studies on this herb use turmeric extracts containing mostly curcumin itself, with doses usually exceeding 1 gram per day.

It would be very difficult to achieve such levels simply by using turmeric as a spice in food. This is why some people prefer to take supplements.

Curcumin is also fat-soluble, meaning it breaks down and dissolves in fat or oil. It may be a good idea to add curcumin to high-fat meals.

Curcumin has benefits against depression

Depression is a mental disorder characterized by feelings of sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration.

Curcumin has shown some promise in the treatment of depression.

In a controlled study, 60 people with depression were randomized into three groups. One group took Prozac, another took 1 gram of curcumin, and the third group took Prozac and curcumin.

Curcumin is as effective as an antidepressant. After 6 weeks, curcumin led to improvements similar to those seen when taking Prozac. The group that took both Prozac and curcumin showed better results.

 Turmeric may help prevent cancer

Turmeric and curcumin have been shown to kill cancer cells in test-tube and animal studies. They appear to block the growth of new blood vessels in tumours (angiogenesis). Curcumin also seems to reduce the spread of cancer cells by inhibiting their ability to invade other tissues (invasion).

Whether curcumin in high doses - preferably with an absorption enhancer such as piperine - can help treat cancer in humans has not yet been adequately studied.

However, there is evidence that it may prevent cancers, especially the digestive system, such as colorectal cancer.

In a 30-day study of 44 men with colorectal lesions that sometimes become cancerous, 4 grams of curcumin a day reduced the number of lesions by 40%.

Help to improve your digestion

Curcumin, the main active ingredient in turmeric, can help stimulate bile production in your liver. This helps break down fats and improve your overall digestion, which is essential for good gut health.

Your liver produces bile, which is stored in your gallbladder. Bile is a yellowish-green fluid that helps break down fats in your small intestine. When you eat fat foods, your gallbladder releases bile into your small intestine.

Turmeric may help improve symptoms of indigestion by stimulating the production of bile in your liver and increasing the flow of bile into your small intestine. It may also help to reduce inflammation in your digestive tract.

Helps to lower your cholesterol levels

Studies have shown that curcumin can help reduce "bad" LDL cholesterol levels while also increasing "good" HDL cholesterol levels in the blood, which is essential for good heart health.

In a controlled study of 120 people with high cholesterol, those who took curcumin supplements for 30 days had a significant decrease in LDL cholesterol and an increase in HDL cholesterol.

Curcumin may also help prevent plaque formation in your arteries atherosclerosis, which is a major risk factor for heart attacks and strokes. Curcumin appears to reduce plaque formation by preventing the buildup of LDL cholesterol in your arteries.
